 2017 Preview 


       Central completed the 2016 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region eight, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Central's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Madison Academy by a score of 51-13.

       The Wildcats lost as many games as in any season since 2008. The defense allowed a team record 343 points last season.

       Since 2010, Central has gone a combined 47-31. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Central has managed to compile a record of 139-142. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 4A and 185th in the AHSAA.

       The Wildcats are led by head coach Heath Wood who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 37-29 over the past six seasons at Central. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Wood.

       Coach Wood's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 37-29 (56.1%).

       The Central Wildcats will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2017 season.

       The Wildcats will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region eight this season.

       The Wildcats open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Lexington on Friday, August 25 at Wildcats Stadium. Last year the Lexington Golden Bears finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in third place in Class 3A region eight. The Golden Bears lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Weaver by a score of 42-0.

       Central and Lexington have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 22-19-1 record against the Golden Bears. They last met in 2016 with Lexington winning by a score of 27-0.

       Central returns 4A All-State Senior defensive lineman Jeremiah Allen. He was named to the second team last season.
